YOUR PEDOMETER You may have a few questions about the pedometer that is supplied with your registration fee. This is where you will find some more information. STEP TO IT People tend to over-estimate their level of activity. The Accusplit activity pedometer provides an accurate step activity reading throughout the day. With a little extra effort and planning you can be life-style healthy without a single step into a gym or onto a track (although those are also excellent places to be active). You derive excellent benefits if you do concentrated , aerobic walking (3-4 mph/ 15-20 minutes per mile) in 10 minute increments three times each day, Increasing your current activity level just a little helps improve your health when you make it part of your daily lifestyle. The key to health and quality of life is making activity part of your lifestyle in the same way brushing your teeth in an integrated activity in your healthy lifestyle. HOW TO USE YOUR PEDOMETER

For best results, clip the pedometer firmly at your waist. It should be located above the knee or on your side above the hip. It is important to ensure that the case is positioned strait up and down. If the pedometer is tilted, your step count may be under-recorded because the pedometer’s pendulum function is not free to swing properly. ______________________________________________________________________________________ WHAT ACTIVITIES DOES THE PEDOMETER NOT REGISTER? ______________________________________________________________________________________ HOW MANY STEPS ARE IN A KILOMETRE? The Steps Out program considers an average step to be 0.762 meters (this equals a 2.5 foot stride). Therefore, 1 kilometer = 1,320 steps. If you have longer legs and/or a wider gait, you will actually be making more distance than the Step Update program shows. If you have shorter legs and/or a narrower gait, you will actually be making less distance than the Step Update shows. Either way, don’t sweat the distance! The point of Steps Out is to get you walking and promote overall health. It is more important how hard you work, not how far you go. ______________________________________________________________________________________ VERSIONS OF THE PEDOMETER The Penticton Steps Out program committee does research and source out different pedometer suppliers, to ensure the program acquires the most accurate and current technology. Your walking partner may have a different pedometer if you signed up at different times. ______________________________________________________________________________________ When the LCDispaly dims replace the battery with LR-44 or equivalent.
______________________________________________________________________________________ PEDOMETER WARRANTY The warranty depends on what pedometer you received.
